The next meeting of our Club will take place on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025, 7-9 PM at the SOUTH AUSTIN SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER, 3911 MENCHACA RD, 78704.
Don’t let the “Senior” put you off, all ages are welcome, this is just the best venue that we could find, and it is free, so this is where we’re meeting!
The Club will provide beverages, cups, plates and utensils; participate, if you like, by bringing along something to eat in the pot-luck tradition!
Everyone is invited to bring along any postcards that you would like to sell, trade, or show and tell.
Paul Lewis will be bringing us this month’s presentation:
Bridging Space, Time and Family
Have you ever picked up a postcard and instantly been transported back in time? That happened to Paul Lewis, this month’s presenter, when he found a linen postcard of the George Westinghouse Memorial Bridge located near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This postcard brought back more than memories of many family trips crossing the bridge to go to the Big City. We’ll go back to the late 1800’s to the village of Turtle Creek, home of his great grandfather who once met the industrialist for whom the bridge is named. Besides being a prominent landmark and engineering marvel, we’ll see why its graceful soaring arches have made the George Westinghouse Memorial Bridge a favorite subject of postcards, photos and paintings.
