The January meeting of the Capital of Texas Postcard Club will take place on Wednesday, January 25th, 7:00 – 9:00 PM, at the
South Austin Senior Activity Center
3911 Menchaca Rd
Austin, TX 78704
Don’t let the “Senior” put you off, all ages are welcome, this is just the best venue that we could find, and it is free, so this is where we’re meeting!
We are privileged to have Richard Eisenhour as our speaker this month bringing us an update on his ongoing research as described below:
Richard's Moonlighting Gamble: Update on Early Texas Postcard Research
For many years, CTXPC President Richard Eisenhour has focused his collecting efforts on tracking and documenting the 124 Texas images that, in 1898-1899, San Antonio publisher G. R. Spielhagen featured as postcards. The immense Private Mailing Card series promoted the attractions found in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Fort Worth respectively. Richard would like to update club members on research that he hopes to publish as a historical reference book titled, The Moonlighting Gamble: G. R. Spielhagen and the Earliest Texas Tourist Postcards.
As always, anyone is welcome to bring postcards to the meeting that you would like to sell or show and tell.
Refreshments will be potluck style. The Club will provide drinks, cups, plates, utensils, and napkins.
